昂山素季讲话挑战缅甸军政府Suu Kyi challenges regime

Aung San Suu Kyi, the Burmese opposition leader, has used her first speech since being released from house arrest to challenge the authorities who imprisoned her for much of the past two decades.

缅甸反对派领袖昂山素季(Aung San Suu Kyi)解除软禁后的第一次演讲就对当局提出挑战。过去二十年的大多数时间里，昂山素季一直被当局关押。

“Democracy is freedom of speech,” said Ms Suu Kyi, who has spent almost a quarter of her life in detention for vocally supporting democracy in a country run by one of the world’s longest-running military dictatorships.

昂山素季说：“民主就是言论自由。”昂山素季一生中近四分之一的时间都因为公开支持缅甸民主运动而遭到当局关押。统治缅甸的是世界上掌权时间最长的军事独裁政府之一。

However, in a speech outside the headquarters of her National League for Democracy in central Rangoon, the 65-year- old Nobel Peace Prize laureate tempered her defiance with realism.

然而，在昂山素季领导的缅甸全国民主联盟(National League for Democracy)位于仰光市中心的总部，这位现年65岁的诺贝尔和平奖得主以现实主义的态度表达了自己的反抗。

“If we want to get what we want, we have to do it in the right way,” said Ms Suu Kyi, a life-long advocate of non- violence, told thousands of supporters.

Ms Suu Kyi was released on Saturday after more than seven years of house arrest.

昂山素季在超过七年软禁后在周六获释。

Her freedom came six days after elections in which the generals who have ruled the country for almost 50 years ensured that their candidates won an overwhelming victory.

在她获释前六天，缅甸大选已经结束。而这次大选中，军政府候选人在掌权近50年的将领们支持下，取得了压倒性胜利。

Despite the huge advantages the government granted to its favoured candidates, many ordinary Burmese had hoped the elections would lead to a greater degree of democracy. The thwarting of those hopes has led to widespread anger.

虽然政府对自己青睐的候选人给予了极大的优势，许多缅甸百姓还是期望选举能带来更大程度的民主。这些希望受挫，造成了广泛的愤怒。

But Ms Suu Kyi, who maintains her faith that non-violent pressure will bring change despite having spent more than 15 of the last 20 years in detention, had words of comfort for her supporters.

“Please do not give up hope. There is no reason to lose heart,” she said.

Ms Suu Kyi – whom President Barack Obama on Saturday described as a “hero of mine” – has become the focal point for international pressure on the Burmese regime. However, Burmese activists fear that her release might mitigate some of the opprobrium heaped on the junta for rigging the elections and the continuing detention of more than 2,200 other political prisoners.

上周六被奥巴马形容为“我的英雄”的昂山素季，已成为国际社会对缅甸政府施压的焦点。然而，缅甸活动人士担忧，昂山素季获释可能会缓和国际社会对军政府操纵选举并继续关押另外2200多名政治犯的谴责。
